Tilgul ladoo is a sesame and jaggery sweet.

Tilgul Laddoos are traditional Maharashtrian sweets made during Makar Sankranti, symbolizing sweetness and togetherness.

Tilgul Laddoo Recipe

 Ingredients

* 1 cup white sesame seeds (til)

* 3/4 cup jaggery (gul), grated or powdered

* 2 tbsp roasted peanuts, crushed (optional)

* 1 tbsp ghee

* 1/4 tsp cardamom powder

* 1–2 tbsp warm water or milk (if needed)


Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Roast the Sesame Seeds

1. Heat a pan on **low flame**.

2. Add sesame seeds and dry roast them.

3. Stir continuously until they turn **light golden** and start popping.

4. Transfer to a plate and let them cool.

5. Once cooled, lightly crush them using a grinder or rolling pin (do not make powder).


Step 2: Roast the Peanuts (Optional)

6. Dry roast peanuts until golden.

7. Remove the skin and crush them coarsely.


Step 3: Melt the Jaggery

8. Heat a pan on **low flame** and add 1 tbsp ghee.

9. Add grated jaggery and stir continuously.

10. Cook until jaggery melts completely and becomes soft and sticky.


    Do not overcook, or the laddoos will become hard.


Step 4: Mix All Ingredients

11. Switch off the flame.

12. Add roasted sesame seeds, peanuts, and cardamom powder to the melted jaggery.

13. Mix everything well.

14. If the mixture feels dry, add **1–2 tbsp warm water or milk** and mix again.


Step 5: Shape the Laddoos

15. While the mixture is **warm**, grease your palms with ghee.

16. Take small portions and shape them into round laddoos.

17. Place them on a plate and let them cool.

Serving & Storage

Serve during **Makar Sankranti** with the traditional saying:

 Tilgul ghya, god god bola.

Store in an airtight container.

Stays fresh for **7–10 days** at room temperature.

Tips

* Always roast sesame seeds on **low heat**.

* Use **soft jaggery** for best taste.

* Shape laddoos quickly before the mixture cools.
